Global efforts to curb green house gas emissions can be achieved in one of two manners, through sequestration (by removing carbon from the atmosphere) or emissions reductions (by not putting carbon in the atmosphere). Offset Solutions Inc. is committed to removing carbon from the atmosphere, and there exists but one solution...growing a tree!
Aforestation is the process of establishing a forest on bare land, or land that has not been a forest for a long period of time. Aforestation is a very effective means of addressing climate change. This is because living trees have the capacity to remove carbon from the atmosphere. This process is referred to as Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a natural process that uses CO2 from the atmosphere, and releases O2. Not so evident, but another important contribution of a growing tree is that apart from conversion of CO2 to O2, a growing plant also absorbs heat!
Our initial project is situated in the Guangdong Province of China, 3 hours north of Shenzhen. Offset Solutions Inc. has secured over 2900 acres for our project. China became an obvious choice, as it is fast becoming a global leader in promoting green business. The National government has mandated half of their 585 billion USD stimulus package towards developing a green economy!
Offset Solutions Inc. is working with local farmers to plant and maintain the trees for our project. A quantitative measure of the amount of C02 removed by each tree will be verified by SGS GROUP International. www.sgs.com . We have selected a combination of Eucalyptus and Red Chinese Pine trees for the project as these species of trees grow faster and help remove CO2 quicker than other trees.
